Women fined for uncustomed goods

A 42-year-old Bruneian woman was fined $600 in default 2 weeks imprisonment by the Bandar Magistrate's Court yesterday after she pleaded guilty to having failed to obtain permits from the relevant authorities for several goods she brought into the country.

Dyg Hjh Sawadah binti Hj Hamid admitted to having in her possession 28 kilogrammes Danish Chicken Wing, 6 packets Rose Chicken Frank, 4 packets Dat Schub Denmark Chicken Frank and 110 kilogrammes of sugar, all of which were undeclared.

The Royal Customs and Excise Department prosecutor, ASC Hj Jamil bin Hj Tuah said all the uncustomed goods were found inside a boat by the Customs Preventive Officers on the October 11, 2002 in the vicinity of Kampong Setia, Kampong Ayer.

According to him, the value of the chicken wings and chicken franks was estimated at $91.52 and the value of the sugar was $83.80.

Meanwhile, the same court yesterday fined a 43-year-old local woman, Dyg Aminah binti Mat Noor, $200 or a week's jail in default for having in her possession 70 kilogrammes of undeclared sugar.

She was caught being in possession of the uncustomed goods together with Dyg Hjh Sawadah at the same place in the year 2002. The sugar was estimated at $53.33.
