Alcoholic beverages and tobacco confiscated during the raid.
A Malaysian national who tried to bring alcohol and restricted
goods illegally into the country was detained by the Prevention
Section of the Customs Department in Kuala Belait with the help
of the Customs Inspection officer at the Sungai Tujuh Control
Post.
The man was reportedly on his way to Kuala Belait from Miri
at 6.55 am last Tuesday. He brought with him alcohol and
cigarettes that did not bear health-warning labels from the
Ministry of Health.
In all, 12 bottles of white wine, 30 cartons of Gudang Garam
cigarettes as well as a number of plastic bags containing other
brands of tobacco were confiscated from the man.
The Customs Department in their report yesterday said that
the Investigative Customs section carried out the inspection as
part of the ongoing Operasi Tegas 2004.
The operation was aimed at preventing the smuggling of goods
at any control posts, by land, sea or air.
It was also carried out to reinforce the efforts by Customs
to ensure that goods are not smuggled into the country.
All the goods have been seized while the vehicle has been
impounded pending further investigation. |
