4 M'sians, PR fined for booze deal

Four Malaysians and a Permanent Resident were fined after they admitted to giving liquor, which they had declared for personal consumption, to another person before Magistrate Muhammed Faisal. They had imported the liquor into the country yesterday.

Permanent Resident Wong Nam Huat and Malaysian Fong Yun How were fined $1,500 each while Lau Chin Hin was fined $2,500 and Lau Cho Kiang was fined $3,000.

According to Customs Prosecuting officer Hj Amran, all of the defendants were arrested by police officers who had been tipped off and had then inspected a car driven by Kong Bee Keung near GK Restaurant in Gadong carrying the four offenders as passengers.

The police found eight cartons of 24 cans Tiger Beer in the car.

Wong Nam Huat admitted to giving a carton to Kong Bee Keung for an upcoming party at her sister's house as a gift.

Fong Yun How also admitted to giving a carton to Kong.

Meanwhile, Lau Cho Kiang admitted to owning 84 cans of the beer and his father, Lau Chin Hin owned 60 cans of the beer and helped his son to give all the beer as well as his to Kong Bee Keung as a gift for the upcoming party.
