Calls were made by concerned members of the public for relevant
agencies to check all personal effects sent overseas through
cargo companies for any stolen items.
An officer at the Royal Customs Department said the personal
effects sent by cargo were already being checked for illegal
items.
However, personal effects such as televisions, electrical and
electronic appliances were not checked against purchase receipts
unless the department obtained information that stolen items
have been sent overseas by cargo.
Concerned members said they felt all personal effects such as
televisions and stereos must be checked against purchase
receipts to ensure the items were not stolen items.
"People including overseas workers should not be allowed to
send any personal effects unless they produced receipts for the
to-be-sent items.
"There may be stolen properties being sent overseas through
cargo companies," they said. |
